The Strypes

Ok, so I just read a big article about The Strypes in Rolling Stone last week, and I had heard of them before somewhere, but I can't remember where (I think they opened for Arctic Monkeys one time or something), and I thought 'Who are these teenage kids?! Who do they think they are?! Wanna be Jake Buggs, Arctic Monkeys, and mods!?'. But I decided to check them out because all the hype was making me curious, so last week I played "What a Shame" off of their debut album Snapshot. To be honest, I was not that impressed first off, but I listened to it again, and again, and again, and their album a bunch of times. So now I'm kinda obsessed with Snapshot. I just can't stop listening to them, probably for the same reason as everybody else: they're so new, so young, and their sound is kind of cool because you know their just kids trying to be like their idols. These four boys from Ireland, whose ages range from 16 to 18, are trying it out in the music business, and I am kind of surprised that the business is giving them a chance. Their lyrics are a bit dim, rough, and about Irish teen lust, with lyrics like " I reek of sweat and teenage innocence". But I kind of like it that way because it reminds you that a 16 year old wrote them. My favorite song by them is definitely "I Don't Want Know" just because it is so rough and you can tell that it is just a group of teens trying to fit in the world of Brit-rock. It is hard to tell if The Strypes will be around for a while, because they are so young in age, but I think if they stay together and keep doing what they are doing now, with more progression, they could maybe take over Brit-rock one day.

HAIM's COOL NEW VID

HAIM are officially the coolest sisters in Indie Rock. This new video for my favorite song off of the album "If I Could Change Your Mind" is awesome. I feel like most indie rock bands hold themselves back from dancing, but HAIM dance in like every video and it really cool. And they have the coolest clothes.

The Moon Song from Her

Ok, so I have been wanting to see Her for a while now, and this week my wanting to see it went up by like a thousand. Because I just heard the duet by Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and my main man Ezra Koenig of Vampire Weekend. I have not seen this film yet, but I am pretty sure it is sung by Joaquin Phoenix  & Scarlett Johansson in the movie. All I know for now is that Karen & Ezra sing it beautifully. Listen to it Here.

Miles Arntzen: An Interview

Heyyy, Just uploaded my first ever interview with Afro-beat drummer, Miles Arntzen, from all the back in October. Miles is the band leader of the funky Afro-rock band EMEFE, who's new album should be dropping in May. Miles also drums for Antibalas, Superhuman Happiness, and with many other musicians. I love these guys, they're great, so check out the interview here. And keep in mind that i had NEVER interviewed anyone before, so don't mind my nerves/excitement. Be sure to check out Miles' music, it's funky and always puts me in a good mood. ENJOY!

Da Grammys

So the Grammys were last night and to be honest the only award I cared about was the Best Alternative Album because my fav band, Vampire Weekend, was up for their amazing album, Modern Vampires of the City. I knew they completely had this in the bag. Back in 2011 they were nominated for Contra, and the only reason they did not win then was because 2011 was the height of The Black Keys craze. And this year they were the strongest competitor. The other nominees were Tame Impala, Nine Inch Nails, The National, and Neko Case. And to my ecstatic joy VAMPIRE WEEKEND WON THE GRAMMY!!! I feel so proud!!

My main man Ezzie accepting his award
And some other artist won some stuff as well.
